The ruling pro-Awami League and Vice Chancellor backed teachers at Jahangirnagar University (JU) swept the polls to the teachers` representative in JU senate.
The returning officer of the election and acting registrar of the university Abu Hassan announced the results after counting the votes at 10:30pm at the Senate Hall of the university yesterday.
The pro Awami League teachers` panel `Bangabandhu Shikkhak Parishad` bagged 24 out of 33 posts of university`s senate.
The pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party and a section of pro Awami League teachers` combined panel `Shikkhak Oikya Parishad`, won 8 seats in the
election.
Besides, Professor Golam Rabbani, an independent candidate of History Department was also elected as the senate member.
Earlier, a total of 577 out of 613 voters cast their votes from 9:30am to 2:30pm to elect 33 candidates as Senate members at the Teachers` Club of the
university.
The last Teachers` Representative Election of the JU Senate was held in 2015 although the election should be held every three years.
